Heartburn Food

Just thinking about heartburn can bring a frown to the face of many heartburn sufferers. Only a person who has suffered from heartburn, can know the true pain caused by it. That's why most people suffering from heartburn will search almost zealously to find a solution to either prevent, or cure their heartburn. One way of doing this is to pinpoint the 'heartburn food' that triggers off an attack.

What you shouldn't eat when you suffer from heartburn

As a person suffering from heartburn you should start by doing some research into the subject of heartburn food. This will bring a lot of benefits to the sufferer of heartburn as he/she will not only be able to stop or avoid intake of these trigger foods, but will now be able to concentrate more on the foods that you can eat without a problem.

In general you can say that heartburn foods can be classified into two section: the foods that are good for you and those that will bring an attack of heartburn at the drop of hat.

It has to be said that of course different foods will induce different symptoms in different people. What acts as a trigger for one person, causing an intense heartburn pain, might not act in the same way on another person. The pain caused might only be one of mild discomfort, or perhaps that person might not suffer any symptoms at all.

Unfortunately there is no comprehensive list of heartburn food to tell all people to stay away from this, this and this particular acid reflux food. Most of us will just have to learn by trial and error. However, for the vast majority of people suffering from GERD there are some common foods that have been found to trigger heartburn. The bestplace to find the best list of these common foods would be at your doctor's office, but below I have summarized the main foods heartburn patients should avoid for you:

  • Fruit: try to avoid oranges and orange juice, lemons and lemonade, grapefruit and grapefruit juice, cranberries and cranberry juice
  • Vegetables: try to eliminate tomatoes, potatoes and raw onions from your diet plan
  • Dairy: don't eat milk shakes, cottage cheese, ice cream or sour cream
  • Sweets: it is hard, but you should avoid chocolate, brownies, doughnuts and butter cookies
  • Beverages: try not to drink liquor, coffee, wine and tea

Many heartburn suffers get really desperate as the list of heartburn food that should be avoided seems endless to them, but there is a sliver lining to this cloud, and the list of good foods isn't modest either. Apples and carrots, bananas and baked potatoes, are but a few foods you can enjoy, along with cereals, breads, and feta cheese.

I

If you're looking to eat a meal that's fit for a king, then you'll probably be disappointed by the choice of foods available to you, but if you eat to live, and not live to eat, then you won't have any problem. There are huge benefits in staying away from such heartburn food, that you might feel drawn to. They outweigh the disadvantages of actually giving in to your cravings by far

So remember to eat healthily and live heartburn free!
